WHY MANY ARE WEAK AND WICKED
By Dr. Lawrence Osifo
In Matthew 22 verse 29; — “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”
The explanation is: You act and react angrily; stubbornly; selfishly; rebelliously; fearfully; disorderly; weakly; because you do not know the word of God.
• Daniel 11 verse 32; — “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
INTRODUCTION
Beloved, in every generation, we find men and women who are either weak or wicked — sometimes both. Some are weak in faith, weak in conviction, weak in integrity, weak in prayer, and weak in their relationship with God. Others are wicked — cruel, deceptive, selfish, and rebellious against divine truth.
But the Scriptures reveal a central truth: the root of weakness and wickedness is ignorance.
As Jesus said in Matthew 22:29, “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”
When a man does not know the Word, when he does not know the will, and when he does not know the ways of God, he becomes vulnerable to error, sin, selfish; and corruption. Ignorance opens the door to spiritual decay.
So; Jesus answered and said unto her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that said to you, Give me to drink; you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water – John 4 verse 10.
1. IGNORANCE OF ROOT
Many people are weak and wicked because they do not know their root.
They are ignorant of who made them, who owns them, and to whom they belong.
When you do not know your spiritual origin or root, you live as though you created yourself. You drift without purpose. You become easily influenced by every wave of doctrine and every worldly fashion. You thus like a tree without root or a branch without connection to any stem.
You cannot be strong in the Lord when you are disconnected from the Vine. Jesus said in John 15:5, “Without me, ye can do nothing.”
A branch cut off from its root will wither. Likewise, a soul cut off from God will grow weak and wicked.
2. IGNORANCE OF CONSTITUTION
Every believer has a constitution; — the Word of God.
The Bible is our spiritual constitution, our manual for life, our covenant guide.
But sadly, many Christians do not know the Scriptures. They quote social media more than the Word. They study the opinions of men but not the mind of God.
That is why Jesus said, “Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures.”
The one who ignores the Word will err in judgment, in character, and in conduct.
Your strength in God is tied to your knowledge of His Word.
Daniel 11:32b says, “The people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”
To be strong, you must be a student of the Scripture. To do exploits, you must know the power of God through His Word.
3. IGNORANCE OF IDENTITY
Many are weak and wicked because they do not know who they are.
They live by labels society gives them, not by the identity heaven gave them.
They do not know that they are children of God, ambassadors of Christ, and citizens of heaven.
A person who does not know his divine identity will act like a stranger in his own Father’s house.
In Luke 23:34, Jesus prayed for those who crucified Him, saying:
“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”
Ignorance made them crucify the Saviour. They didn’t know they were killing their Redeemer.
Even today, ignorance makes people fight the truth, reject righteousness, and despise holiness.
4. IGNORANCE OF DESTINY
When a man does not know where he is going, he will follow any road.
Many are weak because they have no vision; they drift through life.
Many are wicked because they destroy others in the process of wandering.
But when you know your divine destination, you discipline yourself, you walk in purpose, and you pursue righteousness.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Without vision, people lose restraint. Without understanding, they live in rebellion.
5. IGNORANCE OF THE FATHER
Jesus said in John 16:3:
“And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.”
Men persecute the righteous, mock the holy, and resist the truth because they do not know God.
Ignorance of the Father produces spiritual blindness.
When men do not know God’s love, they spread hate.
When they do not know His mercy, they become cruel.
When they do not know His holiness, they live in sin.
Knowing God is the cure for wickedness. Walking with Him is the cure for weakness.
CONCLUSION
Beloved, the reason many are weak and wicked is not because they are naturally evil — it is because they are spiritually ignorant.
Ignorance of the Scriptures, ignorance of God’s power, ignorance of purpose, and ignorance of the Father produces spiritual weakness and moral wickedness.
But there is hope!
Daniel 11:32b declares, “The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
You can be strong.
You can overcome sin.
You can walk in holiness and power.
All you need is to know your God — through His Word, His Spirit, and His fellowship.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, open my eyes to know You more deeply.
2. Deliver me from every form of spiritual ignorance.
3. Strengthen me in Your Word and in Your power.
4. Let me not be weak or wicked in my generation.
5. Make me strong to do exploits for Your glory.
FINAL CHARGE
Child of God, do not remain weak. Do not remain ignorant.
Feed on the Word, walk in the Spirit, and live in the knowledge of God.
For those who know their God shall be strong — and they shall do exploits!
